Print options
Offer customer choices such as grommets or lamination. Understand group settings, included values, defaults, charge basis, dependencies, and variants.
Products → Options, Sizes, Materials, Thicknesses and Colors; open a product
Before you begin
- Create reusable group/value names in Shared product options first.
- Know the surcharge, charge basis, and production compatibility of each finishing choice.
01Add a finishing choice
Open Product options. Options are customer choices such as grommets or lamination. Shared product options holds the reusable groups and value names; the product editor chooses which values are offered and what they cost on this product.
- If Grommets is not in your option library, open Shared product options and create that group with None and Four corners as its values. Return to the product.
- Select Add option from library, choose Grommets, and expand the group. Leave This product offers options such as size, color or finishing enabled.
- Check Required, include both values, and set None as the default. A required group can still offer a None value so the customer explicitly chooses no grommets.
- Set None to 0 and Four corners to 4 in Retail. Set the Charge basis for both to Per unit. If you use wholesale pricing, enter its prices separately; the screenshot uses 0 and 3.
- Keep Additional option off. Select Save options and variants, review the confirmation, and save.
| Control | What it does | In this example |
|---|---|---|
| Include | Makes an individual value available for this product. Unchecked values remain in the library but are not offered here. | Both values checked |
| Default | Sets the initial value in this group. Selecting one default clears another default in the same group. | None |
| Required | Keeps this option group part of the customer’s selection. | On |
| Additional option | Places the group among add-on options; the matching purchase-form control must also be visible. | Off |
| Charge basis | Flat charges once for the line; Per unit scales with quantity; Per sq ft scales with area; Percent uses percentage pricing. | Per unit |
Check the resultAt quantity 1, changing Grommets from None to Four corners increases the example subtotal from $30 to $34. At quantity 2, that option adds $8.
02Keep choices compatible
Expand Exclude other options when selected to choose groups that should not be used together. For example, a pole-pocket option may conflict with certain edge finishing. Review both groups and test the customer selection before offering the combination.
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| Display title / Description | The group’s customer-facing name and explanation on this product. |
| Display choices as | Text, images, or both. Add a useful value image before selecting an image-based display. |
| Exclude from quantity discounts | Keeps this group’s charge out of quantity discount calculations. |
| Reorder controls | Changes the sequence of option groups. Save the product options after reordering. |
Check the resultA customer can select supported combinations without being quoted for incompatible finishing.
03Open a value’s Settings
The Settings button belongs to an individual value, such as Four corners. Expand that value’s artwork, material & date pricing panel when its behavior differs from other choices.
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| Artwork / designer settings | Controls such as designer restrictions and allowed file types can alter the artwork path for that selection. |
| Material calculation | Links the selection to material calculation settings. Review the actual material and units before changing a production-related calculation. |
| Signup-date pricing | Adds date-based price overrides for the value. Keep the charge basis consistent with the rule you intend. |
| Turnaround settings | Available for turnaround-type groups. These connect the selection to timing rules rather than being an ordinary finishing surcharge. |
04Understand variants and SKU stock
Eligible weight-based products can link combinations of option values to SKUs. The dimension-based banner in this walkthrough does not use this stock-variant section.
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| Add variant | Adds a combination for you to configure and connect to a SKU. |
| Generate combinations | Builds missing combinations from selected option values. Each new variant needs a SKU before saving. |
| Available stock | Shows the linked SKU’s stock. Editing variant quantities can update shared SKU stock. |
| Continue selling when out of stock | Controls whether the combination remains sellable after its linked stock runs out. |
| Edit shared SKU | Edits the shared stock record. Save or discard current variant changes before opening it. |
05Make the choices visible
In Artwork and storefront controls, enable Product options for regular groups or Additional options for add-on groups. Including a value and making its purchase-form area visible are separate settings.
Check the resultOpen the storefront and verify the choices, default selection, and surcharge—not just the saved admin checkboxes.
You’re ready when…
The customer sees the intended values, incompatible choices are handled, and the quote changes by the expected amount.
Common questions
What is the difference between Include and Default?
Include makes a value available. Default selects the starting value. A value must be included before it can be the default.
Does Required mean the customer must buy paid finishing?
No. A required group can include a free None choice. In the example, Grommets is required and None is its zero-price default.
Why do my options belong to the vendor?
Imported products can use a vendor-controlled option editor. The source vendor controls the available structure, and the editable retail settings depend on that imported configuration.
